“The 84th Maryland Father-Son Championship and 4th Parent-Child Championship at Chesapeake Bay Golf Club brought together families from across the state for one of the most special events on the MSGA calendar.

What started as a sunny, promising morning quickly turned into a weather-filled afternoon, with storms and rain delays pushing play late into the evening. The top teams were fortunate to start earlier in the day, posting their scores before the worst of the weather arrived, and taking full advantage of the ideal early conditions.

By day’s end, five father-son teams were tied at 4-under-par 68, including:

  • John and Matt Pipitone – Bulle Rock GC / Maryland G&CC
  • Michael and Kevin Peterson – U.S. Naval Academy GC
  • Shawn and Colton Thomas – Green Hill CC / Nutters Crossing GC
  • Tom and Douglas Grem – Hunt Valley CC
  • Andrew and Evan Barbin – Chesapeake Bay GC

In a three-team playoff between the Barbins, Grems, and Thomases, the tournament came to an exciting finish. The Barbins, members and owners at Chesapeake Bay Golf Club, made the most of their home course advantage. On the first playoff hole, hole 10, Evan Barbin sank the only birdie of the group, securing the victory for him and his father, Andrew, at their home course.”
