Brothers Austin and Evan Barbin to Compete in 124th U.S. Amateur

ELKTON, MD, August 8, 2024 — Brothers Austin Barbin and Evan Barbin have earned fully exempt status to play in the 124th U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota August 12-18, 2024. Austin won the 2024 Maryland Amateur and the 2024 Golf Association of Philadelphia Amateur, and Evan won the 2024 Delaware Amateur to propel them to the championship. Out of 4,970 entries to attempt to play in the 2024 U.S. Amateur, it is rare indeed that two brothers are set to compete together at the highest national level in this prestigious event. And they have the privilege to play in a challenging field stacked with the top ranked amateur golfers in the world.

Both Austin and Evan play out of Chesapeake Bay Golf Club in Rising Sun, Maryland. Austin is a recent graduate of Liberty University, and Evan a rising junior at Liberty University. Of note is that Evan is a current member, and Austin and older brother Zachary Barbin are former members of Liberty’s NCAA Division I Men’s Golf team.

This will be Austin’s fourth USGA event – he played in two U.S. Junior Amateurs (2016 -The Honors Course, Ooltewah, TN and 2019 – Inverness Club, Toledo, Ohio), and the 2019 U.S. Amateur at Pinehurst (N.C.) Resort & Country Club (Course No. 2).

This will be Evan’s second USGA event – he played in the 2021 U.S. Junior Amateur at The Country Club of North Carolina (Dogwood Course), Village of Pinehurst, N.C.

“Austin, 23, and Evan Barbin, 20, of Elkton, Md., are brothers who both earned their way into the field by winning championships conducted by Allied Golf Associations. Austin, who just completed his senior season at Liberty University, won the 2024 Maryland Amateur and Golf Association of Philadelphia Amateur to become exempt, while Evan, a rising junior at Liberty, captured the 2024 Delaware Amateur. Their father played golf at Lynchburg College, where he is a member of the school’s athletic hall of fame. Another brother, Zach, was a team captain during his time at Liberty (2018-22) and another brother, Andrew, played at Eastern University.”
