Popping the Question

It's Wedding Engagement Season!

It’s that time of year again and I am not talking about the holiday season, I am talking about engagement season.  Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, and Valentine’s Day are all very traditional and iconic times to get engaged.  More couples get engaged between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day than any other time during the year.  With that being said this is the perfect time to give our potential grooms some tips on popping the ultimate question.

Asking someone to spend the rest of their life with you is a very exciting and scary thing to do.  Choosing the right time and the perfect place for the proposal is daunting to say the least not to mention choosing the right ring.  For any guy it takes a lot of courage to put his heart out there and to profess his feelings of love to that special someone all with the possibility of being rejected.

Though I can’t promise you a “yes” from that special someone, I can give you some tips that will help you with the details of your proposal.  Below are a few things that will help you decide on the where, when and how of the proposal.

The Ring:

The ring is a very important detail of any engagement.  The first thing is to make sure you have the right ring size of your beloved.  There is nothing worse than popping the question with a beautiful ring and it not fit your future bride.

Know her style and what she likes, pay attention to the jewelry that she wears.  Does she normally wear white gold over yellow gold, does she like vintage pieces or does she like more modern types of jewelry?  Knowing these things will help you pick the perfect ring for her.

The Place:

Choosing the right place is crucial for any marriage proposal.  The key to this decision is making sure the place you choose means something to the both of you as a couple.  Maybe it is the ballgame where you had your first date or maybe it’s on a beach where you first told her you loved her.  However, know your bride.  If she is a private person, do not propose to her in a stadium full of people, do something more low key and intimate for just the two of you.   If she is very outgoing and loves a grand gesture by all means go for the jumbotron in a stadium full of people.  Either way make sure it means something to the two of you as a couple.

Timing:

Choosing the right time to propose is not always that easy depending on where and how you plan on doing it.  For instance if you plan on proposing on that beach where you first told her you loved her and that requires taking a trip, then you need to plan far in advance.  If you are going to propose at a restaurant and plan on involving the staff be sure to contact them ahead of time and not wait until the night of.  Do you plan on telling her family first?  If so, make sure they can keep it a secret and telling them at the latest possible moment is best to make sure no one spills the news.  The most important part for timing is knowing that you are ready to propose, and for that you will have to trust your instincts.

I hope the tips above help you plan that perfect moment to ask “Will You Marry Me?” to that special someone.  No matter the time, the place, or the ring, if your proposal is from the heart it will automatically be the perfect moment for the two of you.
